COPE's Outreach(See N.A.P.S. Collaboration below) COPEs Outreach programs include community presentations and displays as well as interactive classroom programs with 5th graders and 9th-10th grade health classes throughout Ozaukee County schools. The 5th grade Home Alone Program includes a discussion of the importance of talking about feelings, reviews emergency procedures to follow when in self-care and enforces the importance of following rules at home. COPE is presented as a SAFE place to call when students need to discuss their fears and concerns. High school presentations give information about the COPE Teen Line and include a discussion of depression and warning signs of suicide. It is emphasized to students that COPE is their Crisis Hotline and a safe and confidential place to discuss their fears and concerns, to find support, or to get help in locating a community resource. In 2009, COPE's Outreach Coordinator gave a total of 104 classroom presentations to 2,351 students in area schools.
Nurturing and Parenting Support (N.A.P.S.)The N.A.P.S. program is a collaboration of three Ozaukee County agencies: COPE Services, Ozaukee Family Services and The Youth and Family Project. The mission of this program is to strengthen families by facilitating access to community resources and providing educational and support services. The N.A.P.S. newsletter is the official communication for the collaboration and is published bi-annually with the calendar of events for Fall and Spring. Most of the workshops/classes are offered free of charge and are held at the Family Enrichment Center in Grafton. To register for programs, contact Ozaukee Family Services.
